Intern Sponsorship At TVI, our work requires not just money and physical resources, it requires great outlays of caring people's time. By sponsoring an intern and helping provide for his or her training and equipment you help make this very significant work move forward, by not only helping many challenged individuals, but by helping others help. Our interns help provide distance learning opportunities to challenged individuals along with CD ROM and video-based training. They access and discuss professional literature and myriads of educational resources and references that enhance career opportunities for individuals with a variety of challenges and disadvantages. They learn first-hand about the latest in assistive devices and software, along with techniques that remove environmental barriers to employment and leisure activities for persons with disabilities. TVI's community-based programs are assisted by members, interns and volunteers who share our common vision for a solution to special occupational and life challenges. Daily meetings of interns and other trainees, often open to the public, are conducted at convenient locations throughout the community. Meetings typically last about one hour, with the first half of the meeting being reserved for a speaker, followed by a general discussion of individuals' experiences and successes. Unlike self-help programs that focus on problem-avoidance, TVI focuses on improving our unique solution. Our meetings are uplifting and are based on the truism that what we think and talk about, we become. At TVI we think and talk about our experiences, our solution and the resulting successes. It is not surprising then, that a large percentage of participants recover and lead productive lives. TVI's Trainee and Intern Programs extend well beyond this one hour meeting per day. Numerous interesting work and pleasure peer-relationships are established. Often leisure time is shared and lasting friendships are created among members, volunteers and trainees of TVI. Whatever a person's interest he/she is likely to find a friend that shares the same interest. But TVI is not a social organization. It is, by design, a feedback and resource network. Sharing professional talents, finding jobs and opening their homes are just a few of the ways our members continue their commitment to one another. |
